Xiaomi opens second factory in India to keep up with demand

Xiaomi is determined to make it big in India. The company has already announced that it wants to become the biggest smartphone manufacturer in terms of sales in India within the next three to five years. To achieve its goal, it will have to ramp up production, which is why it has recently opened a second production plant in India.

The announcement was made on Twitter by Manu Jain, who is the Vice President and Managing Director of Xiaomi India. He also mentioned that 95 percent of the company’s smartphones sold in India are currently manufactured in the country. With the new production capacity, Xiaomi is able to produce one smartphone every second during operational hours.
Business has been good for Xiaomi in India. The company’s revenues in 2016 exceeded $1 billion thanks to devices like the Redmi Note 3, which offers a great price-performance ratio. Its successor, the Redmi Note 4, is also in high demand. The Chinese manufacturer sold over one million units of the device in the 45 days since it launched in the country.
In hopes of increasing sales, Xiaomi also launched the budget-friendly Redmi 4A in India yesterday, which retails for ₹5,999.
